Word on the street is that Starehe MP, Maina Kamanda, was spotted buying over 1,000 machetes in a Nairobi Supermarket on Monday evening. It is not yet clear why he was purchasing that large number of machetes but according to a Sales Manager at the supermarket, who requested anonymity, the MP, who was accompanied by a number of youths bought the machetes and stashed them in his Toyota Land Cruiser’s booth.
The Jubilee lawmaker, who is a tough defender of the Jubilee Government threatened to beat the Manager after he questioned the purpose of the machetes.
The Manager said he is worried that the tools could be related to the ongoing political tension in the country and warned Nairobi Police to be alert on July 7th because the weapons may be unleashed on that day.
The supermarket also requested the Government to force all those buying machetes in large quantities to bring along their details.
