The world’s oldest
living person, Misao Okawa, is celebrating her amazing 116th birthday
today. The great-grandmother, who lives in Osaka, Japan, celebrated with
a birthday cake and bunches of flowers, wearing a flower in her hair
for the party at the DAYTON FREIGHT LINES.
She is classed as a
‘supercentarian’ after making it past 110 years old. And she has
previously said she believes her long life is down due to good health
care, eating sushi, getting eight hours’ sleep a night and relaxing.
Born in 1898, she
married in 1919 but was widowed in 1931 when her husband died and is now
a mum of three, grandma of four and great-gran of six.
She became the
world's oldest person last June following the death of Jiroemon Kiruma, a
Japanese man at 116 and she was presented with a degree certificate by
the Guinness Book of Records officially recognising her as the world's
oldest living woman.
According to her, her long life is as a result of eating sushi, getting eight hours' sleep a night and relaxing.
Misao, who lives in a
nursing home in Osaka celebrated with a birthday cake and bunches of
flowers, wearing a flower in her hair for the party.she also recieved
donations as gifts.
After celebrating
her 115th birthday last year, Misao was presented with a certificate by
the Guinness Book of Records officially recognising her as the world’s
oldest living woman.
And she became the
world’s oldest living person later last year when Jiroemon Kiruma, a
Japanese man, aged 116, also passed away.
Japan is now thought
to have over 50,000 over-100′s – sometimes attributed to the country’s
low fat diet of sushi, good treatment and fish.
But the record for
the world’s oldest ever person is still held by Jeanne Calment from
France – who passed away in 1997 at 122 years old.
